Two of Java's great volcanoes in one route. Sunrise over Bromo's sea of sand, then a midnight trek to Ijen's blue flames and turquoise crater lake. Ends in Banyuwangi, an easy crossing to Bali.
Itinerary
Day 1: Pickup from Surabaya or Malang (airport, station, or hotel). Transfer to Cemoro Lawang on the Bromo caldera rim, roughly 4 hours. Check in, early dinner, rest before the 3am start. Day 2: 3:00am jeep departure to the Penanjakan viewpoint for sunrise over the Tengger caldera. Descend across the sea of sand, walk or ride horseback to the crater rim stairway. Return for breakfast, then transfer east to Banyuwangi (approx. 5-6 hours). Check in, early night. Day 3: 12:30am departure for the Ijen basecamp at Paltuding. Two-hour trek to the crater rim, descent to the blue fire viewing point with gas masks and guide. Stay for sunrise over the acid lake, then trek down. Breakfast, then drop-off at Banyuwangi airport, Ketapang ferry port, or onward transfer to Bali.
